The Cart Kitchen in Progress

Dylan just finished a very cool backboard for the kitchen in The Cart (formerly known as the Wheelie House). We needed something behind the stove to cover the ugly, cracked, water-damaged wood that was back there. So he painted and repurposed a table top that came out of the RV, and bits off his broken (but beloved) Marshall amp. And he made a little video too. I love that clever man of mine.

Show-n-Tell

Wanna see the pillow covers we just ordered for the wheelie house's couch/bed? We're stuffing them with the fluff that we use for our art-making so that we'll have extra on hand without taking up all the extra space that the giant stuffing boxes would take up.

These adorable tea towels (from here) will become the kitchen curtains.

And here's a mock-up of the floor we just ordered from here. It's made of glossy vinyl tiles and we'll be putting it in ourselves in the back half of the wheelie house.

Dylan spent yesterday with lots of black paint. Those things under the stool will become walls. Or maybe doors. I'm not sure. Dylan has plans for them, but I don't know what they are. When I ask, it all gets confusing. So I'll just show you when they're in their eventual place.

And here's a super cool vent/light/cupboard that Dylan made to go over the stove. Eventually, those little wires won't be visible. And there will be a backsplash in a pretty yellow-green color.

We finally got cabinet pulls bought and put in. They're all mismatched, and one looks like a mustache (which makes me smile). We were able to find some of them at a salvage yard, but still had to hit Home Depot to get enough for every cabinet.

For the past couple of days, in between painting stuff, I've been making lots of thank you cards with little pins on them for our Kickstarter backers.

Lots and lots of cards! (And no, I don't have one of those die-cut thingies. Just scissors. And apparently patience.)

We really need to come up with a better name for the RV--

Wheelie House just isn't doing the trick. Any suggestions?

Special Thanks

Dylan made a little Thank You video for everyone who backed our Kickstarter project.

We'll be making and sending along thank you notes to everybody this week, and we'll start making the actual rewards once we're settled into the Wheelie House. We're still waiting for Amazon Payments to make funds available to us so that we can get stuff like flooring, a compost toilet, and a refrigerator, but in the meantime we've been able to get some stuff from Amazon online. Our first purchases include curtain rods and fabric to make curtains, an Ott light for my worktable, and a water hose.

Thank you once again to everybody who helped to make our Kickstarter campaign a success!

Making Moonheads

I always like to see in-progress pics, don't you?  So even though these moonbeams are all done now and on their way to far off destinations I thought I'd share anyway.

Here they are drying overnight on my drying rack (cheapo box fan turned face-up) after round two of sculpting. First round was craters, second was faces, and third was all the detaily detail bits.

Here they are after all the detaily detail bits, then more drying time, then sanding. Now comes the first coat of paint. Dark gray. Nice and thick.

Then another coat of paint, this time dry-brushed. Light gray.

Then another coat of paint, also dry-brushed. White.

Then they got warmed up with a watery wash of burnt umber. It sneaks into all the craters and crevices, then I immediately wipe it off.

Then I busted out the teeny tiny brushes and painted them some eyes, gave their lips a little bit of color. . .

. . .and they came to life!

College Girl was in the third grade before we realized that she needed glasses. Up until then she had no idea what we were talking about when we said stuff like "the man in the moon is singing tonight." To her, the moon was just a bright dot. She was so happy when she finally saw it through her new eyes.
